NAIDOC Week 2024, is an exciting opportunity to celebrate and honor the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Here’s some of the ideas, along with photos from the NAIDOC celebrations at Elderslie High School. On the day, we enjoyed Bell songs, Thrive lessons, a Community Afternoon Tea, Lunchtime Activities, a Bush Tucker BBQ, and plenty of fun!
NAIDOC 2024 Activities:
- Bell Songs:
- A celebration of Indigenous music and traditional songs, possibly involving local artists or school choirs. It could also feature storytelling through music.
- Thrive Lesson:
- Educational sessions are designed to teach resilience, well-being, and connection to country and culture. This could involve guest speakers, workshops, or interactive activities with a focus on Indigenous knowledge.
- Community Afternoon Tea:
- A gathering for people to connect, share stories, and enjoy some refreshments. This relaxed setting could encourage conversation about the importance of NAIDOC Week and Indigenous heritage.
- Lunchtime Activities:
- Fun, engaging activities for students, staff, or community members, such as traditional games, craft sessions (like making Indigenous art), or cultural performances.
- Bush Tucker BBQ:
- A BBQ featuring traditional Indigenous foods like emu, kangaroo, and crocodile. This could also include an educational component about the history and significance of bush tucker in Indigenous culture.
- Fun:
- An overall theme of enjoyment and celebration ensures that the event is educational but also vibrant, and inclusive for everyone.
